7 Types of Content you Should be Creating in 2017

14th June 2017

The word ‘content’ is thrown around so much in the marketing landscape it’s easy to forget what it actually means.

With content marketing known to cost around 62% less than traditional marketing but generate on average 3x as many leads*, it’s clear it’s time to think beyond the traditional blog post.

So, you’re looking to create a content marketing strategy that will knock your competitors out of the park, here’s 7 types of content you could create today.

1. Video

If you’re a marketer and video isn’t on your radar for 2017, you should really be questioning why. It’s not about creating a 10-minute long feature film, some of the best videos out there are a matter of seconds yet are incredibly successful in engaging an audience. See some video examples >>

2. Infographic

No matter how much we might deny it, we’re all a sucker for a good infographic. They’re easy-to-digest, shareable, and don’t seem to be going anywhere for a while. Check out an infographic we recently created >>

3. Animation

Perhaps a more ‘off-the-wall’ idea than the others, animations are fast becoming a popular choice for modern marketers. Whilst they might be slightly more complex to create, the creativity they demonstrate is second-to-none.

4. Whitepaper

We all love free things, especially when it comes to tips and tricks we can use in our daily life. Try starting with hot topics in your industry to get a feel for what your audience might want. Check out our ‘Top 10 Twitter Tips’ for some inspiration >>

5. Webinar

If you or your business has particular expertise that you want to share with others, webinars can be an excellent way to position yourself as an authority in your industry. The trick? Give your audience just enough to make them want to come back for more.

6. Magazine

Whether this be a newsletter style or a lifestyle-themed publication, both printed and digital magazines allow you to showcase your personality and keep your customers up-to-date. Explore our digital magazine M World >>

7. Interview

Know someone who might be considered an industry expert? Or perhaps you just happen to know your boss has some hidden skills or anecdotes that could be of value? People love to get-to-know people and interviews are cheap, quick and easy to write up!

There’s even types of content that we’re not actually sure what to call. Take our “Short Story” series which provide an in-depth look at a particular service or project, it doesn’t necessarily fit into one of the above categories but it works for us because it gives the reader some value.

Creating a content strategy that works is about assessing what’s right for your business. Need some help deciding what that is? Give one of our team a call on 0161 743 0980.
