AI cybersecurity for SMEs: how we helped the University of Salford empower ambitious businesses

When the University of Salford developed AI Cyber Nexus, a new educational programme aiming to educate Greater Manchester SMEs on the intersection of AI and cybersecurity, it knew it needed to make the right impression. Our experienced creatives worked together on branding, website design, and memorable storytelling.

Developing a brand identity

With a tight deadline looming, the University of Salford sought Monitor’s expertise to oversee the creative direction of this pioneering project. Our first task? To develop a coherent and compelling visual identity, including an AI Cyber Nexus logo.

We began by developing a distinct colour palette, separate from the established University of Salford branding. This allowed the project to stand on its own as a modern resource that spoke directly to its intended audience.

Our design experts chose blue as the project’s primary colour, leaning on the trust and stability colour psychology studies have shown it to create.

We also incorporated a padlock graphic in the AI Cyber Nexus logo. By using this logomark as an anchor for other assets, we brought consistency and familiarity across the AI Cyber Nexus website and its animations.

Building an accessible website

With the visual identity secured, our attention switched to website development – focusing on aesthetics, functionality, and accessibility. As the ultimate host of workshops, e-learning material, and podcasts, the AI Cyber Nexus site was critical to the project’s overall success.

Using extensive UX knowledge, we developed a user-friendly site packed with essential information for workshop attendees and other project participants. To guarantee accessibility, we designed the site in line with WGAG 2.2 standards and ensured full responsive development across desktop, tablet, and mobile.

The website’s successful development means participants can access the programme’s resources beyond the initial three-month activity period. This ensures the programme’s legacy continues to be felt across the Great Manchester SME landscape.

Creating memorable animations

One the website was finalised, our attention switched to a series of five e-learning animations. After receiving initial guidance from the University of Salford, our copywriting team used expert storytelling techniques to distil complex academic papers into easily digestible material.

At the same time, our designers produced visual storyboards in the AI Cyber Nexus style. With the copy and protype visuals signed off, we entered the production stage of the final animations. High-quality voiceovers and smooth transitions mean the videos will retain long-term value and interest.

Educating SMEs for years to come

As a result of our combined experience, expertise, and effort, the University of Salford now has a distinct AI Cyber Nexus brand that showcases this powerful programme to a huge online audience.

Colour psychology, user experience, accessibility, and storytelling are all central to the programme’s success. SMEs across Greater Manchester and beyond can now continue to learn about the importance and impact of AI on their cybersecurity practices.

"Working with Monitor Creative has been great. Its team took the time to understand our vision and delivered a website that's visually stunning, highly functional, and user friendly. We appreciate Monitor's attention to detail, creativity, and technical expertise."
