When the University of Salford needed to present the findings of a major innovation project to senior industry leaders, it faced a familiar challenge: making detailed technical research accessible, without losing its depth. Our premium report design helped transform complex material into a clear, engaging publication.

Finding clarity among complexity

As part of its MediaCity Immersive Technologies Innovation Hub (MITIH) programme, the University of Salford’s Centre for Sustainable Innovation commissioned a series of feasibility studies. Each study was dense, technical – and full of valuable insight, if only it could be seen and understood.

To spread the word about the scale of opportunity for its new technologies, it wanted to turn three of these research-heavy studies into visually engaging reports and brochures.

Our expert team was tasked with first editing and repurposing study content so that it could be easily read, understood, and navigated. We then had to create each report using a strong visual hierarchy and clear information design. Accuracy and authority had to be maintained, but accessibility had to be improved.

A six-step delivery process

Working within the existing MITIH brand guidelines, we developed a six-step process to ensure every production decision helped the final reports achieve their objective.

First, a discovery phase determined the audience profile, key messaging, and visual direction. This initial work allowed us to develop early creative concepts, including using elements of the MITIH logo as a magnifying glass that highlighted key information.

With those concepts refined and agreed, attention switched to the full report design. This included copy-editing, developing layout structures, and incorporating pull quotes and call-out sections that improved readability. Bespoke infographics and charts were also created.

Following a period of review and feedback that maximised the clarity and impact of each report, our design team produced print-ready artwork and digital PDF versions of each document.

Celebrating success

The project successfully transformed complex research into a clear and engaging format. It gave senior stakeholders the ability to navigate information quickly while still retaining the depth and credibility of the original research.

With the project complete, our team was invited to a celebration dinner at The Lowry in MediaCity. Seeing a printed report in circulation there demonstrated how effectively the finished work complemented the wider initiative.
