Monitor Creative appoints new managing director

Manchester-based Monitor Creative has appointed former British Cycling commercial director Laura Thomas as its new managing director.

Thomas joined Monitor in December 2022 and has harnessed 25 years of client-side experience to make an immediate impression on both the business and its clients. She will now lead the digital and full-service creative agency on a day-to-day basis, with founder and former managing director Moray Newberry becoming chairman – a role which has been vacant since former Costco UK managing director Francis Ball retired.

Thomas’s experience includes brand building, marketing strategy, membership engagement, and marketing execution and delivery. She worked extensively with external agencies during her time in senior leadership roles at British Cycling, Kukri Sports, Banner Ltd, and SigmaKalon, giving her valuable insights into the pressures and expectations involved in the client-agency relationship.

She said: “It’s a huge honour to be trusted with leading Monitor Creative and it’s a challenge I can’t wait to embrace. We’re entering an exciting period in Monitor’s history, and we’ve got one of the industry’s best teams ready to continue our growth and the delivery of the exceptional results and service our clients have come to expect.

“We’ve always focused on transparency, commitment, and communication – and that certainly won’t change. Our clients trust us because we treat them like an extension of our business. But we’ve also got the talent and expertise on hand to ensure they’re always ahead of the curve when it comes to embracing and leveraging the very latest in marketing and technology.”

Founded in December 1993, Monitor serves clients in all sectors and is a renowned specialist in helping membership organisations better understand, communicate with, and grow their audience.

Monitor Creative chairman Moray Newberry said: “Laura has been an outstanding addition to the Monitor team and I know she will succeed in this new role. The business is in good hands – and our clients will feel the benefits for many years to come.”
