Marketing agency answers your burning questions: Social Media Edition

This is the final installment of our burning questions blog series. We are going to be looking at all things social media. We all know that over the last 20 years, social media has become a massive part of people’s daily lives. 62.3% of the world’s population uses social media. This is what makes it such a useful tool and a brilliant marketing asset for many businesses. So, we are answering all of your key questions and looking at how you can use social media for your business.

Question 1: How important is social media?

If you have a website or an online business, it can be incredibly useful.

Here are some of the key reasons why:

  1. Customer Support and Interaction: Using social media is a quick and easy way to get back to your customers and send an immediate response. Showing your followers that you solve problems and answer queries quickly in the comments is an effective way of marketing your business. 
  2. Brand Visibility: The billions of active online users are at your fingertips, with a diverse range of audiences. There is also the opportunity for viral potential, which again brings attention to your business. 
  3. Promotion: The great thing about social media is how cost-effective it is – posting organic media is free. Promotion also comes from users sharing your business or products on their page. 

Question 2: Where do I start?

Before you start, you need to consider certain aspects of your business and what platforms your target audience will be using. 

For example, LinkedIn is a great place for all businesses and their owners (specifically B2B). This is because of its networking and brand-building opportunities.

However, Instagram is also another really popular platform that is great for many businesses, specifically:

  • Fashion and beauty 
  • Food and beverage 
  • Entertainment

Once you have picked your platform(s) it’s time to create your content calendar, get planning, & posting.

Question 3: What do I post?

This is the most important aspect of your social media platform: the content. 

Firstly, let’s get to grips with the different types of content that you could be posting:  

  • Short form: This is captivating content (less than a minute long) and includes images. Why it’s great – easy for the audience to consume and quick to make.
  • Long-form: longer than a minute – increasingly becoming more popular with social media apps, for example, TikTok videos can be up to 10 minutes long. Long form performs better in search and is good for SEO.

Other forms of content you can produce include live videos, podcasts, and webinars.  

Top Tip! Plan your content! – Creating a content schedule is a great way to know what’s going up in advance and means you can plan content that is valuable to your audience rather than a last-minute panic on the day because you have nothing to post!
